Human Rights In Islam

Mohammad Ahsan Ullah

The issue of human rights is the well known and widely discussed in The current world. the so-called modern world community, especially the western world is very loud on human rights. Basic rights of people, which he has been born, so that they are fully protected, sociologists and political scientists about the current thinking and research in the world do not end. The modern concept of human rights was born in the mid-eighteenth century. Under this concept, at first the ‘Declaration of the Peoples Right’ was announced in France in 1789. After that the Us constitution ‘The Bill of Right’ is added. Since then human rights is slowly discussed in the other country’s constitution and state thinking. In the meantime, World War I and World War II devastating blow until the ultimate destruction of humanity of the world; especially that concern the people. As a result, the United Nations declared the Universal Human Rights charter under section 30 systems in 1988. But sadly, there is no obligation to follow the so-called universal human rights charter on any country.  This is a brief history of current human rights.

The ideas of today’s nations and so-called modern educated scholars are such that they are the inventors of real human rights. In this case Muslims have no role to play. But from today half a thousand years ago, Islam declared complete human rights certificate. The Prophet Muhammad(sm) established a great society by establishing the fundamental rights of the people. The issues of the basic rights of the people and the proper guidance are inserted into the Holy Quran. For example,

The right of life

The biggest right is the right of human life. The importance of the Holy Quran on this right has not given much importance to any constitution of the world. like Allah said

If any one slew a parson unless it be murder or for spreading mischief in the lend it would be as if he slew the holy people. 2

The right of ownership

Islam gives recognition and security of ownership in legitimate wealth. Talk about investing in business for financial development. If he was killed in protecting his property he would get martyrdom status. The Prophet (sm) said,من قتل دون ما له فهو شهيدThe person who is killed while protecting his property is martyr. 3

The right of honor

Islam has given properly the right of honor of a man. This is a Mankind’s right.

Therefore in the historic speech of arafat, the prophet also said about the wealth as well as honor. The Prophet (sm) said

O Mankind, your blood, wealth and honor are forbidden to you.

The Right of Expression

Islam guarantees the right to Freedom of speech and expression as well as human life. prophet  Muhammad (sm) Despite the revelation to him. he consulted with the companions of the prophet (peace be upon him).

They work in the order of mutual consolation.  5

Religious rights

Religious right is recognized in Islam. Following every religion is the fundamental right of every person. coercive conversions are completely prohibited. Al-Quran’s statement about this is very clear. Allah said

Let here be no compulsion in religious. Truth stands out clear from error.  6

Political rights

Islam ensured the political rights of the people. Prophet Muhammad (sm) makes politics with his companions. There is a good example for politicians in his life. He will be model for them as successful, idealistic and just politicians.

Allah said in this regard.

O ye who believe! obey Allah, and obey the Messenger, and those charged with authority among you. 7

However, it is not a gift that given by the westerns. It is purely contribution of the Holy Quran, Islam and Prophet Muhammad(sm)  we are respected and Responsible to human rights and we are invited to establishes human rights in the ideals of the Prophet Muhammad (sm).
